Meet Adayi chettan who turns old tiles into attractive flower pots

Adayi of Thuruthiserry near Nedumbassery didn’t have the heart to throw away the old roofing tiles that were left after the old house was demolished to build a new one. Instead, he turned those tiles into beautiful flower pots that have now become the highlight of his garden.

The idea to make flower pots from Mangalore tiles struck him when he was wondering whether to throw away the old tiles. He experimented with many designs before tying together six tiles in the shape of a pot. When he realized that his idea would work, he placed these around the vegetable plants and other bushes that grow in his front yard. What impressed Adayi the most was that his latest invention’s ability to protect the vegetable plants from the prying hens and chicks. Moreover, it added a classy environmental-friendly look to the flowering plants.

As Adayi couldn’t build the pots on his own owing to his age, he did that with the help of a worker. Meanwhile, his wife Annamma painted the tiles in attractive hues using the leftover paints and emulsions to add a touch of artistic elegance.
