Tomy Joseph’s dream dwelling in the charming countryside of Pothanicadu near Muvattupuzha stands out for its classy elevation and beautiful interiors. The house is built on a 25-cent-plot that has uneven layout. Besides the main gate, there is a wicket gate too. Meanwhile, the boundary wall is built in grille and isn’t too tall so that the view of the house from the road wouldn’t be blocked. Interestingly, the warm-toned lights on the boundary wall make it pop.

Even though the elevation features a contemporary style, the house doesn’t stick to the usual designer elements of contemporary architecture. The elements of smart design are manifested in the unique looks of the house. The combination of lighter shades of contrasting hues like grey, yellow and sand texture grant a graceful look to the structure. Besides, there is an open courtyard close to the sit-out. A wall decorated with circular laterite cladding is used to ‘disguise’ this private space.

The splendid house that is designed in an area of 3000 sqft has a sit-out, formal and family living areas, dining area, kitchen with an adjacent work area, four bedrooms and bathrooms. Meanwhile, the interiors are designed in semi-open style to make the spaces look and feel spacious.

The entrance door opens to the minimally furnished formal living area. The custom-made couch sets here exude classy elegance. The double-height ceiling decorated with attractive false ceiling makes this area feel roomy.

Meanwhile, the family living area and the dining space are part of the open hall. This area is so spacious that you feel extremely comfortable and relaxed here. Interestingly, a prayer space too has been separated on the wall.

The modern kitchen is compact and has everything within the hand’s reach. Besides, lots of cabinets are included for storage. A work area too is part of the kitchen.

The bedrooms are simple to make cleaning and maintenance easier. You wouldn’t find bright shades that are stressful to the eyes or over-the-top panelling works in the bedrooms. Instead, these rooms are minimal yet elegant. The bath-attached bedrooms have in-built wardrobes too.

The family decided to build a singl-storey house as the owner’s old parents too live here. Their ancestral home is just behind this brand-new house. The old couple spent time at both houses. So, the structure has been designed to allow seamless communication between both houses.
