Rohit, an architect who designs dream dwellings for clients was determined to build the most amazing house for his parents, retired teachers Ramesh and Ratna, in their hometown at Tirur in Malappuram, Kerala. The elevation dons the elegant charm of traditional style while the interiors boast of modern amenities and designer elements.

Besides the main gate, there is a traditional padippura too in order to grant an old-world charm to the structure. Interestingly, the ceiling has been designed in two ways. Truss roof paved with roofing tiles is installed over a part of the house. Besides, a layer of ceiling tiles too has been used beneath this roof. Meanwhile, the rest of the roofing is done with exposed cement finish.

The interiors of the house are designed in the open style. Designed in 2300 sqft, this fabulous abode has a quaint sit-out, living and dining areas, kitchen with a work area, two bedrooms on the ground floor. Meanwhile, there is one bedroom and a multipurpose room on the first floor. The spaces are designed as two separate zones. The bedrooms and the interior areas are arranged in one zone while the sit-out is part of the zone where traditional elegance meets chic contemporary style.

Interestingly, the entrance door and a few timber-works in the interiors are done using the teak that was planted by the owner around thirty years ago. Kota stones have been paved on the floor in the common areas.

Old furniture pieces have been reused in the interiors. The classic wooden couch set done in coconut timber adorns the formal living area. Meanwhile, an old wooden chest has been turned into a coffee table here.

The green courtyard is the most beautiful spot in this house. The grand old mango tree offers shade while the small water body and the Buddha statue make this spot a haven of tranquillity.

The compact kitchen has all the facilities arranged within the hand’s reach. Meanwhile, granite has been paved on the countertop. The old couple are enjoying their retired life peacefully in a beautiful house that exudes positivity.
