Prathap Chandran’s palatial mansion right in the centre of Haripad town has become quite the ‘celebrity’ for its bewitching magnificence. The contemporary structure and its luxurious interiors are now talk of the town. The family had initially approached the architect to renovate their old house. However, they soon realised that the structure had many flaws, making renovation an impossible task. So, the decision to build a brand-new house in the place of their old house was made.

Interestingly, the structure has been built to suit the unique layout of the plot. The plot is located at a major curve on the road, allowing perfect views of this area from three sides. So, the structure has been designed taking advantage of this unique feature.

Even though contemporary homes do not suit the weather in Kerala, necessary arrangements have been made here to face the severe monsoons. For instance, in order to protect the walls from moisture and moulds during heavy rains, high-quality branded waterproof paint has been used. Besides, small projection slabs too are added to prevent the rainwater from directly hitting the walls.

The elevation designed in the classic white and grey colour theme, is highlighted with cladding tiles and laterite texture works. Meanwhile, the canopy car porch doesn’t block the beautiful view of the house from the road. The car porch is spacious enough to park up to three vehicles.

The circular-shaped well on the plot has been resigned into a square one in order to complement the box-shaped elevation. Meanwhile, the front yard is paved with natural stones and grass in alternate layers. Interestingly, the garden here boasts of many hybrid fruit trees and saplings.

Sprawling in 5600 sqft, this mega mansion has a car porch, sit-out, formal and family living areas, dining space, courtyard, kitchen with an adjacent work area, two bedrooms and bathrooms on the ground floor. Meanwhile, there are two more bedrooms, bathrooms, home theatre and balcony on the upper floor.

All the furniture pieces that adorn the interior spaces are custom-made to support the general theme of the house. The upholstery works done in fabric, leather and jute add texture and elegance to these furniture pieces.

The false ceiling and the warm-toned light settings grant a cosy ambience to the interiors. Interestingly, materials like gypsum board, plywood and teakwood have been used to decorate the ceiling. Meanwhile, teak wood is used to highlight certain areas in the sit-out and formal living area. An entire wall in the living area has been turned into a giant aquarium, making it the most attractive feature in the interiors. You could catch a glimpse of the splendid aquarium from anywhere in the house.

The double courtyards in the house instant draw attention with its exquisite teak panelling, UPVC works and toughened glass. The bedrooms are really spacious and are designed in unique themes. Designer elements like texture works, attractive wall papers, wooden panelling, lamination, veneer, metal profile and profile lights make the bedrooms look incredibly luxurious. Besides, there are photo walls, beautiful wall arts and indoor plants to add a charming greenery in these rooms.

A quaint breakfast counter and a mini bar too are part of the spacious open kitchen. Moreover, lots of cupboards have been included for storage. Meanwhile, the cabinets here are done in plywood with laminate finish. The modern home theatre is equipped with Dolby acoustics quality and can accommodate up to fifteen persons.

The huge glass window inside the house opens to the patio on the backyard. Grill and automatic shutter too have been installed here for additional safety. The artificial pond in which hundreds of colourful koi fish swim in harmony and the graceful fountain makes this spot a haven of tranquillity. The family says that lots of people visit the house everyday to see the fabulously designed interiors and spend some time enjoying its luxurious ambience.
