Sri Lankan PM Wickremesinghe worships at Mookambika temple

Kasaragod/Kollur: Sri Lankan Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe offered prayers at the famed Sri Mookambika Temple at Kollur in the Udupi district of Karnataka on Saturday.

Wickremesinghe, accompanied by his wife Maitree, had taken a flight to the Mangaluru airport and then left by road for Kollur on Friday.

The Sri Lankan leader offered prayers, and received 'prasad' from the temple priest.

The 70-year-old politician also took part in several sacred rituals, including the Navachandika Homa and Kudumba Pooja.

The PM also conducted a ritual for the prosperity of his country.

Wickremesinghe left the famous temple by 1pm.

Ahead of the visit to the temple town, the Sri Lankan PM was staying at a five-star hotel at Bekel in neighbouring Kerala's northernmost Kasaragod district. After visiting the Subrahmanya Temple at Bela in Kasaragod, Wickremesinghe is scheduled to return to his country.

An extensive security cover was thrown for the visiting Sri Lankan PM at Kollur and other places visited by him. The security was stepped up in view of the Easter bombings that had rocked Sri Lanka in April.
