Kollam man, 72, immolates self near lone son's grave

Kollam: In a heart-rending incident, 72-year-old man ended his life near the grave of his son. Raghavan Nair, a native of Pathanapuram, committed suicide by setting himself on fire as he was disillusioned.

His relatives and residents in the locality claimed he took own life due to loneliness and chronic illness.

The shocking incident happened on Tuesday night near the grave of his only son Harikumar. The locals heard Raghavan's screams and rushed him to the Thiruvananthapuram Medical College. He, however, died while undergoing treatment.

Harikumar, who was employed in the Air Force, had died of a tumour 15 years ago. Raghavan' wife passed away 10 years ago. He was devastated when his three sisters and a nephew passed away in the last one year.

He was active with charity work in Aruvithara area.
