Some combos are just deadly; they pair up for a reason—to make us swoon over them. Crumbly puttu and spicy prawns cooked against the backwaters of Kumarakom—this combination commands your awe.

Ingredients
For Puttu

½ kg rice powder
¾ cup water 
Salt, as required
1 cup grated coconut 

For Prawn Kumarakom

200gm prawns
2 tsp oil
3 green chillies, slit lengthwise
1 inch piece ginger, sliced thin and long
1 garlic, finely chopped
Curry leaves, as required
½ tsp turmeric powder
1 cup water
2 tsp chili powder
1 small ball of tamarind
Salt, as required

Preparation
To make puttu

Take a large bowl and put the rice powder into it. Add salt, a little water at a time, and mix it well to a crumbly dough
In a puttu vessel, add the grated coconut and then the rice powder mixture. Repeat adding both the ingredients alternatively one more time. Keep it in steam for 10 minutes

To make Prawn Kumarakom

Remove the shell of the prawns and clean it well
Heat oil in a clay pot. Add green chilies, ginger, garlic, curry leaves and turmeric powder and saute well. When it becomes golden brown, add water and boil the mixture well
Add the chili powder. Wait till it bubbles up once again add then add the tamarind and salt. Mix well
Now, add the prawns and mix well
