Jakarta: The Indian men's hockey team continued its merry run in the Asian Games with a thumping 26-0 win over minnows Hong Kong here on Wednesday.
India had thrashed hosts Indonesia 17-0 in their opening Pool A match.
Harmanpreet Singh, Rupinder Pal Singh and Lalit Kumar Upadhyay scored four apiece for India. Akashdeep netted thrice, Manpreet Singh and Varun Kumare scored a brace each, while S V Sunil, Simranpreet Singh, Dilpreet Singh, Mandeep Singh, Amit Rohidas, Vivek Sagar Prasad and Chinglensana Singh Kangujam too sounded the board.
The defending champions toyed with the Hong Kong defence and raced away to a 6-0 lead in the first quarter.
Akashdeep opened India's account in the second minute itself, which was doubled by Manpreet Singh the very next moment. Rupinder Pal converted a penalty corner to make it 3-0. Rupinder struck from the penalty corner again in the fifth minute, while S V Sunil got into the scoring sheet in the seventh.
India led 14-0 at the half-time. The Indians converted five out of the 10 penalty corners in the first half.
The Indians took it a bit easy in the second, but still pumped in 12 more goals to complete the rout.
India next meet Japan on Friday.
