Kozhikode: The leaders of the state Congress has alleged a secret agreement between the Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPM) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for the upcoming Lok Sabha election. Opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala and Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) chief Mullappally Ramachandran made the claim on Friday.

The opposition leader told media here that the first level of discussions between the BJP and CPM leaders in this regard was already over.

“The target of both these parties are same – to reduce seats of Congress in the Lok Sabha poll and thereby support the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS)-led government at the Centre. Both these governments at the Centre and the state are anti-people,” Chennithala said.

“Whenever the BJP is in crisis, the CPM comes for the former's rescue. The latest example was on the Sabarimala issue. It was as per the mutual agreement between the two that the protests and the resistance took place. Every action from the CPM only helped in getting more visibility for the BJP in Kerala,” Chennithala alleged.

Mullappally, who is halting in Kozhikode on Friday as part of the ongoing pan-Kerala Janamahayathra, reiterated the allegations made by Chennithala, and said that a recent interview by RSS leader Valsan Thillankery was one proof of the secret pact between the CPM and the RSS.

“In an interview published in a weekly in Malayalam, Valsan Thillankery admitted that he was a connecting link between the CPM and the RSS. What more reasons we need to expose the secret pact between the two?” Mullappally asked.

He added that the rousing welcome accorded to the Janamahayathra at various destinations is a proof that the public has realised the tactics of both CPM and BJP and they trust Congress.

Regarding the disciplinary action taken against the Congress block committee for not collecting funds for the yaathra, he said that it was only a corrective practice and the party was not into collecting large funds like the CPM.

The leaders also criticised the state government for making the Travancore Devaswom Board (TDB) president a puppet on the Sabarimala issue.

A book 'Indian Politics 2019' written by Sooranad Rajasekharan was released at the District Congress Committee (DCC) office here. The first copy of the book was handed over to Mullappally by Chennithala. MK Raghavan, MP, and DCC president T Siddique were present at the function.
