Thiruvananthapuram: The CPI's list of probable candidates for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections is ready. The district leaderships of the party have prepared lists comprising three names each.

In the crucial Thiruvananthapuram seat, the list includes the party’s state secretary Kanam Rajendran, C Divakaran MLA and CPI district secretary G R Anil. The probable candidates in Wayanad are Sathyan Mokeri, C N Chandran and P P Suneer. Meanwhile for the Thrissur seat, the party district leaders have proposed sitting MP C N Jayadevan, former minister K P Rajendran or former MLA Rajaji Mathew Thomas.

Leaders in Kollam and Alappuzha are meeting to prepare the list for the Mavelikkara seat. C Arun Kumar, Chittayam Gopakumar and V Sasi are among the candidates being considered.

Some CPI local leaders had mentioned the name of Minister V S Sunil Kumar also during the Thrissur district council meeting. However, Sunil Kumar expressed his reluctance to contest.

The Thiruvananthapuram district leadership had earlier demanded that Kanam contest from the capital. But Kanam too had declined.

C Divakaran, who is among the probable contestants from Thiruvananthapuram, now represents Nedumangad in the Assembly. The MLA is yet to reveal his mind on the district leadership’s proposal.

Formal discussions on seat-sharing in the LDF will begin on March 2, when the Front’s Kerala Samrakshana Yatra concludes. The CPI’s executive will meet on March 3 and council the next day. The short lists prepared by the district leaders will be discussed during these meetings. CPI national leadership is meeting on March 5 and 6, after which the candidates will be announced.
