Puppets take to the stage for anti-narcotic drive

Mannar: Vimukthi, the anti-narcotic awareness programme of Kerala excise department, is using puppet shows in parts of the Chengannur in Alappuzha district as part of its campaign.

Five glove puppets were used on a single stage for the show named “Ee janmam amoolyamanu” (This life is precious).

Scripted and directed by Sunil Pattimattom, the 20-minute show was staged by Vision of Life Puppet Drama, Thiruvananthapuram.

The shows were held at Mannar, Cheriyanad, Venmani Kalyatra junction and Chengannur town which come under the Chengannur Excise Circle.

Excise officers A. Sathyan and G. Thulaseedharan, preventive officer S. Harris and civil excise officers P. Sajikumar, Binulal and Nishant led the campaign.

Of late, drug use has been on the rise in Kerala. Cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar was roped in earlier to launch the Vimukthi programme against liquor and narcotic abuse.
