Pulpally, Wayand: A tusker, which was critically injured after being hit by a bus on the Mysuru-Mananthavady road, succumbed to injuries on Thursday.
The elephant, 48-year-old Rowdy Ranga, belonged to the elephant camp of the Nagarhole National Park.
Rowdy Ranga was hit by a private bus heading to Kerala from Karnataka on Monday.In the accident, which occurred at 4 am, and 40 km away from Kutta on the state border, the pachyderm fractured its thigh bones and couldn’t stand on its legs.
The Karnataka forest officials were giving medical treatment to the elephant, which was lying on the roadside. They were also finding ways and means to shift the tusker to a safer place for further medical attention.A case has been registered against the bus driver, said Forest Principal chief conservator Punati Sreedhar.
As the night ban on vehicular movement exists on Battery-Mysuru, Bavali-Mysuru routes, more vehicles take the Hunsur-Mysuru road during night hours. Environmentalists have also demanded the ban of night traffic in Nagerhole forest.
