Thumbamon on a green mission post floods

Pandalam: The garbage that accumulated at Thumbamon panchayat during the floods has been collected and handed over to Chris Global Traders at Thiruvalla, which has been recognized as a green help establishment by the Haritha Mission, Kerala. Items like plastic bottles, bags, footwear, tube lights, bulbs and electronic devices which were found at various spots in the panchayat after the floods were picked up by the Harithakarma Sena and cleaned.

They were later given to the Thiruvalla concern. Panchayat president Zacharia Varghese said that three loads of garbage were handed over after strenuous efforts.

In the next phase, non-degradable waste material will be collected from houses charging Rs 60. Harithakarma Sena will conduct inspections at houses engaged in management of biodegradable waste every two months and offer suggestions.

A contract will be signed between the house owners and the panchayat consortium before this process. At regular intervals, paper, plastic, medicine packing, broken glass and leather items will be collected from houses by Harithakarma Sena members. Local body members will supervise this task.

The panchayat president also said that the green protocol will be implemented at the auditoriums and marriage halls in the panchayat.
