Auto-taxi strike in Kerala from July 3 midnight
All the auto-rickshaw, tempo, traveller, goods auto and other small vehicles will keep off the road as part of the strike.

Thiruvananthapuram: Auto-rickshaw, taxi and light motor vehicle workers have announced an indefinite strike from the midnight of July 3 demanding systematic increase in fares.

The joint action council which announced the strike said that around eight lakh workers in the state belonging to CITU, INTUC, AITUC, HMS, TUCI, UTUC and JTU unions will take part in the agitation.

The other demands of the workers are:

» Withdraw the decision to enforce 15-year advance tax for taxi cars.

» Reduce the various fees at RTA office which were increased recently.

» The legal metrology department imposes a fine of Rs 2,000 a day in case of delay in sealing auto-rickshaw fare meters. The workers are demanding that this fine should not be enforced.

» Include all motor vehicle workers in the Motor Vehicle Workers Welfare Fund and increase the benefits.

Action council chairman E Narayanan Nair and convener K V Haridas said that all the auto-rickshaw, tempo, traveller, goods auto and other small vehicles will keep off the road as part of the strike.
