Thiruvananthapuram: The DGP has ordered a probe into the fake message circulated in the social media which said that noted singer S Janaki had passed away. The action follows a complaint submitted by the association representing playback singers.

The investigation has been handed over to the cyber-crime police. The message had appeared in social media a week ago. It had even mentioned the purported time of cremation.

Another fake message similar to the one now being probed had appeared after Janaki announced her decision to stop singing. The association of playback singers submitted a complaint to the DGP as it has become a common practice to spread rumours regarding the death of several leading personalities in the film field.

The cyber-crime DySP who is in charge of the investigation has been directed to locate the origin of the fake message as well as the people who spread it on social media.
