First arrest for GST fraud reported from Perumbavoor

Kochi: A Keralite businessman from Perumbavoor has become the first person to be arrested for cheating regarding GST (Goods and Services Tax) filings.

B Nishad, the owner of Woodtunes Industries, was arrested by the central GST intelligence in connection with a Rs 138 crore fraud based at some plywood factories at Perumbavoor.

Nishad, a resident of Vallam in Perumbavoor, was absconding since July 27, when the fraud was detected. Later, on Sunday night he was nabbed by CGST intelligence officials while trying to escape from his house.  

Nishad was subsequently subjected to a medical examination. He had earlier filed an anticipatory bail plea before the High Court.
