Kerala Police's all women battalion gets active in flood-affected districts
Four groups of 35 women commandos each have been deployed to help women staying in relief camps and disaster locations.

Thiruvananthapuram: In the wake of heavy rainfall and floods across the state, the Kerala police on Saturday deployed their newly inducted women commandos to serve in four flood-affected districts. Four groups of 35 commandos each have been deployed to help women staying in relief camps and disaster locations, Kerala women's battalion commandant R Nishantini IPS told Onmanorama.

“This is one of their first critical assignments. As much as 35 woman commandos have been deployed in Idukki, Malappuram, Alappuzha, Ernakulam and Malappuram districts each. They serve both on disaster fronts and in relief camps,” Nishantini said.

Sources said the service of the women commandos are offering big relief to the women inmates of flood-relief camps. Kerala's first all women battalion was formed in July with 580 members. About 44 of them were professionally trained for commando operations. The battalion is based at Memankulam near Kazhakkoottam, Thiruvananthapuram.
