Kondotty, Malappuram: The young woman, who was found dead at the residence of a Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) jawan based at Karipur airport, has prima facie been identified as a native of Jharkhand, police said on Thursday.
The woman’s identity was established, subject to further confirmation, with the help of her voter ID card which contained her name, date of birth and name of parents. As per the document, the deceased was Fathima Khatoon, 28, daughter of Muhammed Imamuddin, a native of Jharkhand.
However, on the Aadhaar card recovered from the room where she was found dead, her name was mentioned as Fathima Nisha and the residential address was in Bihar. The police presumed that the Aadhaar card contained her old address.
In order to identify her relatives, the Karipur police handed over the information to their counterparts in Jharkhand, who in turn, contacted the woman’s brother.
The woman was found hanging inside the official residence of a CISF sub-inspector at Unnyalparamba near Karipur airport five days ago. The officer told the police that he had gone to his native place in Uttar Pradesh on November 4. He found the woman’s body when he returned to his quarters along with his wife on November 19.
However, the police declined to fully believe his statement as he had chosen to inform them about the incident several hours after spotting the body. His travel documents will be examined to confirm the time he landed in Kozhikode, said DySP Jaleel Thottathil, who heads the investigation.
The officer was transferred to Karipur airport from Nedumbassery airport a year ago and the deceased lady was staying with him the quarters for the past few months. “It appears to be a case of suicide. However, investigations are being conducted to explore all angles,” the DySP said.
The body is kept in the mortuary at the Kozhkode Medical College Hospital.
It is learnt that the family members of the deceased will reach Karipur by Friday evening. “Further course of action will be decided based on the information provided by her relatives,” said SI M P Ibrahim.
