Culinary experts ‘Nalans’ brothers seek help for treatment

Alappuzha: ‘Nalans’ brothers – Rajasekhar Nadar (Nalans Sekhar) and Sharavanan Nadar – who had satisfied the taste buds of foodies with their culinary skills, are seeking financial help to foot their medical bills.

Nalans Catering owner Nalans Sekhar is undergoing treatment for kidney and liver-related diseases at a private hospital in Ernakulam and Sharavanan is being treated for cancer at Kottayam Medical College.

Sehkar, a native of Thirunelveli in Tamil Nadu, had to discontinue studies while studying in class III due to financial constraints and take up a job as beedi worker. Later he came to Kottayam, with the help of a person, as a helper in a household and learned cooking.

Impressed by Sekhar’s culinary skills, the head of the family gave him a chef’s job at his restaurant. A prominent hotel in Alappuzha invited Sekhar to be a part of its group as he became an expert cook within a short span of time. Later, Sharavanan joined his elder brother and both started a catering company by the name of Nalans Catering.

The brothers were in financial stress due to loans availed for running the business and the problem was compounded as their health deteriorated. Sekhar has to undergo renal and liver transplant, according to doctors, and a huge amount is needed for Sharavanan’s treatment too The brothers immediately need close to Rs 50 lakh to meet their medical expenses.

Initially, local people had collected money but for further treatment they need more financial assistance. Those who want to contribute can transfer money to Sekhar’s daughter Saranya’s bank account.
