Koratty, Thrissur: Overcome by his desire to see his mother at the hospital, a 12-year-old boy threatened his father at knife-point.

The son forced his father to take him from their home in Thrissur to the hospital in Kochi on his bike. The incident happened on Mother's Day, Sunday.

However, the police stopped the duo at the border and found the knife in the son's pocket. CI B K Arun sought to know the details from the father, who was visibly scared.

The father explained to the cops that the boy dearly loved his mother. The burger made by his mother was the child's favourite. However, after the mother was admitted to the hospital due to an ailment, the son became distraught. He started making demands for the burger made by his mother.

He said he wanted to visit the mother at the hospital and have the burger made by her on Mother's Day. He had seen his classmates sharing photos with their mothers on social media and his desire to meet his mother only increased.

The father tried to explain that travelling was not possible due to the COVID-19 lockdown. The obstinate child refused to listen to any of the reasoning. He then allegedly picked up a knife from the kitchen and started threatening his father. The hapless father had then no choice but to concede to his son's demands.

After listening to the incident, the cops took both the father and son to the police station.

The CI and his team spoke to the child for long, and tried to make him understand the gravity of the situation. The cops told him to read the books, 'Around the World in 80 days' and ‘Robinson Crusoe’, and submit the summary of the stories at the station. The cops promised to get him burgers if he did so.

The son was allowed to return home with his father. The father and son went home after purchasing the books.
