Kerala reports fourth COVID-19 casualty, Mumbai-returnee dies in Thrissur hospital

Kerala reported fifth COVID-19 death on Thursday night.

The victim was 73-year-old Khadeejakkutty who hailed from Chavakkad in Thrissur district.

She returned to Perinthalmanna from Mumbai in Maharashtra, along with three of her relatives, by road on May 19.

Her sample tested positive for COVID-19 on Thursday.

On Thursday, her son took her to Taluk Hospital in Chavakkad.

She complained of breathlessness on arriving at the hospital. The doctor on duty referred her to the medical college.

She died soon after she was shifted to the ambulance.

The woman apparently suffered from hypertension and diabetes.

Her son and the ambulance driver have been put under quarantine.

The three relatives, who had travelled with her from Mumbai, too have also been put under observation.

Guruvayur MLA K V Abdul Khader said her body has been kept at the mortuary. “Since it is a COVID-19 death, the health department will take a decision on the burial procedures,” he told Manorama News.

Fifth COVID death

This is the fifth COVID-19 death in the state, and first in Thrissur district.

Yakub Husain Sait (69 years, Ernakulam), Abdul Azeez (68 years, Thiruvananthapuram), Mehraoof (67, Mahe, UT of Puducherry) and four-month-old baby (Malappuram) were the four persons died in Kerala earlier.

Though Mahroof hailed from Mahe in the Union Territory of Puducherry, he died at the Government Medical College Hospital in Kannur. His death has been recorded in Kerala based on a union government guideline, which stated that deaths should be accounted where it occurs irrespective of which state the person hailed from.

Kerala recorded 687 COVID-19 cases till Thursday. Of this, 177 are undergoing treatment while 510 were cured.
