Thiruvananthapuram: The police sub-inspector who kicked a drunk train passenger has been suspended.

The action was taken on SI MC Pramod by Intelligence ADGP TK Vinod Kumar based on a report submitted by Railway SP Chaitra Teresa John.

A departmental enquiry had been launched on the incident that came to light after a fellow passenger on the Maveli Express had videographed and shared it on social media.

A youth, visibly in an inebriated state, can be seen kicked by the police officer before he was forced to alight the sleeper compartment at the Vadakara Station.

The officer's conduct was heavily criticised despite a female passenger claiming later that the drunk man had misbehaved.

As per the woman's statement reported by Manorama News, the person had sat improperly, his dress out of place, before two girls.

The ticket examiner had said that the man did not have a valid ticket for the journey.

The state human rights commission has also taken a suo moto case and ordered an enquiry into the incident.
