76 more test positive for Omicron in Kerala, cluster at nursing college in Pathanamthitta

Centre issues revised isolation guidelines

Thiruvanathapuram: Kerala on Wednesday reported 76 new cases of the Omicron variant of coronavirus, Health Minister Veena George said in a press release.

Among the fresh cases, 59 are from low-risk nations and 7 from high-risk nations. Nine contracted the disease through contact.

With this, the tally of Omicron cases rose to 421 in the state. Out of the total Omicron cases, 290 arrived from low-risk nations and 85 from high-risk nations. 43 contracted the variant through contact and three arrived from neighbouring states.

Meanwhile, an Omicron cluster has formed at a nursing college in Pathanamthitta. It is suspected that a student at the institute contracted the disease from a person who arrived from a foreign country, the release stated.

Kerala on Tuesday saw a sharp rise in the fresh COVID-19 cases with the state reporting 9,066 new infections which raised the caseload to 52,91,280.
The state also reported 296 deaths which took the total fatalities in the state over the 50,000 mark to 50,053.
