COVID: Kerala logs 51,739 fresh cases; TPR at 44.6%

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala has yet again recorded over 50,000 cases of coronavirus infection in a day. The health department on Thursday reported 51,739 fresh infections taking the number of active cases to 3,09,489.

Test Positivity Rate (TPR) on the day was 44.6% after 1,16,003 samples were tested in the last 24 hours.

Ernakulam logged the highest number of cases among districts (9,708) followed by Thiruvananthapuram with 7,675.

The health department on the day added 153 fatalities to the COVID list. That included 11 recent deaths, 57 previously undocumented ones and 85 cases that were not made official yet due to late filing.

While 42,653 recoveries were reported on the day, at least 47,490 persons among the fresh cases contracted the virus through contact.

The source of infection in 3,548 remains unknown and 464 healthcare workers were also infected in Kerala on Thursday.

To date, 52,434 COVID-related fatalities have been reported in Kerala.
