Three killed as car plunges into canal in Adoor

Adoor: Three occupants of a car were killed as the vehicle fell into a canal here shortly after Wednesday noon. Four others were rescued.

The dead have been identified as Sreeja (45), Indira (57) and Sakuntala (51).

Two injured have been rushed to the Adoor taluk hospital. They include Sarath of Happy Villa at AKG Mukku. The 35-year-old was at the wheel.

The driver of the car was drunk, doctors who attended to him, said.

The accident occurred near the St Mary's Orthodox Church at Karuvatta about 1.15 pm.
CCTV visuals show the out-of-control car jumping the signal at a junction and hurtling towards the canal.

After it plunged into the narrow canal, the car carrying seven people drifted a few meters towards the bridge, thus making the rescue efforts challenging.

Reports say the car riders belong to Ayoor in Kollam district and were proceeding to Haripad.
