Thrissur: The Dean of School Of Drama & Fine Arts in Thrissur has been arrested in connection with a complaint of sexual assault levelled by a student.
The Thrissur (West) police arrested S Sunil Kumar, professor and dean of the institution, following the complaint.
Sunil Kumar tried to commit suicide while being brought from Kannur to Thrissur after his arrest. He tried to cut his veins using a blade that he had kept in his pocket. He was taken to a hospital and given preliminary treatment. Later he was brought to Thrissur and remanded in custody.
The police went ahead with the arrest after the student recorded her confidential statement before the judge. The students of the School of Drama & Fine Arts were on strike demanding the arrest of the dean.
