Pala: Flood returned to haunt the residents of Panackapalam in Kottayam district on Sunday after an abrupt surge of water overnight. The latest flood scare follows a brief respite from rising water levels amid the recent downpour.

People fear landslide in the hilly regions even as there was no rain in the area. The police, however, confirmed that no such reports have come from the areas prone to landslide.

The police is on high alert as the region is close to Bharananganam where pilgrims have gathered to participate for the feast of St. Alphonsa, the first Indian-origin woman to be canonised by the Catholic Church.
