Karunagapally: A lorry driver and his second wife have been arrested for inflicting serious burns on the body of the man's seven-year-old child from his first wife. The woman, Arya, is accused of having used a spatula to burn the child with. The incident happened at their house at Thodiyur, near here, in Kollam district on Tuesday.
The child, who has seven severe burn marks on her body, said Arya first beat her up and then used the hot spatula to inflict the burns. “It was a punishment for urinating on the bed,” she said. The child, a Class 2 student, has been admitted to Child Welfare panel's Mahila Mandiram.
The incident came to light when the girl complained of pain when a classmate touched her. The class teacher then examined her and found the injury. The student was absent from school for a few days.
The headmistress informed the police and Childline, a leading NGO. The child's father, Anish was arrested from the school later after he allegedly showered abuses on the class teacher for taking up the case.
