Easy, healthy yet sweet breakfast options for fussy eaters

Are you one of those busy people who love a filling, healthy yet hearty breakfast though you hate cooking? Or, are the kids at home giving you a hard time demanding sweet breakfasts instead of healthy options? Instead of the regular dosa-idly template, you can go for quick yet nutritious morning meals at least once in a while. Here are some of the dishes and the reasons why they are good for both adults and kids.
Ragi puttu: Made with finger millet mixed with grated coconut, this dish is a twist on the popular rice-semolina puttu. Team it up with honey, bananas or even a small amount of jaggery milk mix and you have a wholesome, healthy breakfast. Ragi is naturally gluten-free, high in fibre and has a low glycemic index. Moreover, it is easily filling and satisfying, ensuring that your energy is sustained throughout the morning.

Aval nanachathu: Aval or poha nanachathu is a simple dish flavoured with jaggery, grated coconut and cardamom. You can garnish it liberally with nuts of your choice, preferably toasted cashews and almonds and dry fruits like raisins. You can also experiment by combining it with slightly sweet black or milk coffee. As this dish has beaten rice, it offers a good source of dietary fibre and carbs. When mixed with jaggery, it also gives you iron, magnesium and potassium.

Millet banana pancakes: You can make yummy, easy pancakes with flours made of pearl millet aka bajra, foxtail millet or jowar aka sorghum. Ragi is also used by some people to make pancakes, thanks to its nutty, sweet flavour. Sorghum also has a slightly sweet flavour and a soft texture. You can mix the flour with ripe bananas, eggs and milk to make the pancakes. A natural sweetener like honey can elevate its taste again.

Badam milk: A simple drink made from almonds, it is a good source of protein, essential minerals, vitamins, healthy fats and fibre. Being rich in calcium and magnesium, they are also a good source of calcium and magnesium, which are important for children's bone health. They are also good for adults worried about weight management, being low in calories despite being a filling option.
