Kollam: In a horrifying incident reported from Pathanapuram in the district, the body of a nun was found in the well of a convent on Sunday.
The deceased has been identified as Sister C E Susamma, 54, of Mount Tabor Convent. Susan had been teaching at the St Stephens' School in Pathanapuram for the past 12 years.
As she did not turn up for the morning prayers on Sunday morning, other nuns went in search of her and found blood stains in her room.
There were also signs of struggle inside her room. A trail of blood stains was found from the nun's room to the well, 50 metres away, hinting that she was dragged away. Her hands were slit and hair chopped off.
Residents at the convent said that the nun appeared depressed in the past few days. She had also sought treatment at the hospital. However, it was not known what ailment she was suffering from.
The convent, chapel, and the school are all on the same premises. About 50 nuns are staying at the convent.
The body was taken out of the well after forensic experts conducted an inspection.
