Cherthala, Alappuzha: Four years ago fate played a cruel joke on V S Wilson and Vimala. It took away their dear little children Anu and Anusha in a car accident. But four years later fate came with twin bundles of joy for the couple. They were blessed with a son and daughter - Anoop and Augraha - through IVF procedure on August 3.
46-year-old Wilson and his wife, hailing from Vattayil in Alappuzha would never forget the tragic day of June 30, 2014 – the day when death snatched away the lives of their six family members, including the two children. Wilson and his wife who were also travelling with the family had a close shave in the accident that took place at Kareelakulangara in Kayamkulam.
Son Anu (10), daughter Anusha (5), Vimala’s father Xavier, mother Aloysiamma, brother Antony Xavier, sister-in-law Telma Rose died in the mishap.
The family was returning in a car that belonged to a friend of Antony after calling on their relative at Kollam. The vehicle lost control and rammed a container lorry on the highway. Wilson escaped with grievous injuries in the accident. With a broken right leg and left arm, and multiple fractures in jaw and rib cage, he remained in hospital bed for more than a month. He also lost vision in his right eye. Vimala’s condition was more serious and the doctors gave her a slim chance of survival as her skull was split into two. With strong will-power, the couple limped back to normal life in two years though they were constantly haunted by the loss of dear and near ones.
39-year-old Vimala had already undergone tubectomy, which made it difficult for her to conceive the natural way. They decided to undergo the much expensive IVF procedure to fulfil their dream. A private hospital in Cherthala came forward and offered to treat the couple free of cost. Smiles are now back on the faces of Wilson and Vimala who are now busy fondling the two babies.
