Pulpally: A tiger that sent villages bordering Nagarahole National Park into panic has been captured by Forest officials. The beast was tranquillised near Chembakolli, where a man, Kenchan, collecting wild yam was mauled to death recently.
The tiger was soon caged and brought to Vella Range Office and taken to Mysuru Zoo by evening. The locals started protesting around noon against the hushed up removal of the beast that killed one among them. The protesters who burnt trees on road and disrupted traffic were dispersed by the police by 5pm.
The Forest Department has promised Rs 5 lakh to family of Kenchan. Local protests made it impossible to take the body to the hospital last Monday and an autopsy could be performed only after midnight. Kenchan was later cremated at the colony.
