Hello
The leopard was found in a chicken coop in Mannarkad around 2am on Sunday.
Chief forest veterinary surgeon Arun Zackariya and team are expected to reach Kunthipadam in a few hours to examine the animal.
He said, “Banning the hunting of wild animals that pose threat is not logical. It should be allowed outside national parks. Animals are facing issues like extinction due to problems like pollution.”
Thomas PC aka Salu, 50, died after a tiger attacked him on January 13 in Wayanad's Puthussery.
After the meeting, Forest Minister A K Saseendran said the recommendation in this regard would be submitted to the state cabinet, which will then take a final call.
As per the Forest Department’s data, there are about 80 tigers within the 344 square kilometres of Wayanad Wildlife sanctuary.
On Sunday, Forest officials set up a trap cage in the spot where a tiger was caught in Krishnagiri.
The State is also planning to research more on why the animals are entering the human residential areas these days and how their habitats have changed inside forests.
It is suspected to be the same tiger that attacked and killed a farmer named Thomas at Puthussery two days ago.
The District Collector said the government had the provision to give only Rs 10 lakh as compensation to the family.
