The walkway in Kannur's Karivellur is no ordinary pathway, but a passage to nature. The Paliyeri walkway, with nature’s bounty splashed on both sides, is attracting tourists in droves from far and wide who want to get drenched in the rain and soak in the scenic views. The 600m walkway from Paliyeri Kovval to Manakkad Madathil Thazhe was constructed in 80 days in 2013 through the collective effort of local residents.
The farmers gave away their lands for the project, and the walkway made it easy for them to transport seeds and manure to the paddy fields and bring harvested paddy from the fields. An amount of Rs 10 lakh from the MLA Asset Development Fund and Rs 14 lakh through the Employment Guarantee Programme under the Peralam panchayat made the walkway a reality.
The walkway, situated amid lush green paddy fields, is the ideal place to savour the rural landscape. With the development of national highways consuming spaces for recreation, people are heading to the countryside to spend quality time with their family and friends. The Paliyeri walkway is an ideal spot for friendly banter and catching up on gossip.
