Peethambaran - accused in the double murder of Youth Congress workers

Kasaragod: Some revelations made by the suspects arrested by the police for the twin murders of Youth Congress workers Sharathlal and Kripesh at Periya in Kerala's Kasaragod district nailed the lies of the CPM.

According to police, four of the seven suspects, including prime accused and CPM local committee member (expelled now) A Peethambaran, were hiding in CPM office after they killed the duo on Sunday night. Police said this was revealed by the arrested persons. They stayed in the CPM office near Chattanchal till Monday morning. Three other suspects in the case spent the night at houses of party affiliates.

All seven were moved to a secret location early on Monday. Highways were avoided to evade arrest with the help of local party members, police said after questioning the arrested persons.

Party leaders then called the police and made the suspects surrender. Accommodation for all, including Peethambaran, was arranged in an influential area of the party.

A car, jeep and a van have been seized in connection with the murders. Forensic team has detected blood stains and marks of a crash on the car. Weapons believed to have been used for the murders are yet to be recovered.

According to police, more arrests are likely on Thursday. Saji George, who was arrested on Wednesday, will be produced in the court on Thursday. He is a CPM affiliate and a long-time friend of Peethambaran. On Peethambaran’s request, Saji had boarded the auto-rickshaw, police said.

The family of Peethambaran revealed that the CPM had attempted to pacify his wife Manju by offering money.

Five suspects are in custody now and the other two are yet to be nabbed. Repeated questioning has not yielded fresh clues to the case as all in custody are parroting the statement that Peethambaran, along with the auto-driver, committed the crime. The police, however, do not believe this theory.
