Kozhikode: The Koodathai serial murder case took another curious turn on Tuesday when the relatives of Sily – who died in 2016 under mysterious circumstances - came up with a startling revelation.
Sily's brother Sijo and sister Smitha informed police that they did not insist Sily's husband Shaju to marry Jolly – the prime suspect in the serial murders – and that no one from their family attended his second marriage. "We did not insist Shaju to marry Jolly," they said.
On Tuesday, Shaju had claimed that he married Jolly at the insistence of Sily's family.
Hospital records
Meanwhile, authorities at the Santhi Hospital in Omassery where Sily was treated told the police that nothing suspicious was noticed in her death. Sily had come to the hospital with similar symptoms before, they said. They informed the police that Sily's daughter Alfine had been brought to the hospital in a critical state. All the six victims were taken to the hospital before their deaths and the medical records were handed over to the investigators.
Jolly under watch
A special jail officer has been assigned to keep watch over Jolly in the prison after she started showing signs of mental unease. She was admitted to the hospital on Tuesday with hypertension. Jolly complained of stomach ache and physical discomfort. However, she was later shifted back to the jail.
'Demoniac woman'
Skarias, father of Shaju, has alleged that Jolly was a woman of 'demoniac nature' who probably targeted him and his family too. "Alfine suffered unease after having bread and milk. The baby frothed at the mouth before breathing her last. Sily too showed similar symptoms. We thought both of them suffered from epilepsy," he told Manorama News.
Sources said that the Crime Branch was planning to question Skarias in connection with the case.
NIT canteen visits
Jolly was a regular visitor at the canteen of National Institute of Technology - Calicut (NIT-C), said an employee there. "She came alone most of the times. However, we had no idea whether she was an NIT staff or not," the employee told the police.
Shaju and others in Jolly's family were under the impression that she worked at NIT. The Crime Branch probe had exposed her lie.
