Survivors of Coimbatore KSRTC bus crash recollect moments of horror
At least 19 people were killed when the KSRTC bus collided head-on with a lorry near Avanashi town, about 40kms from Coimbatore.

Palakkad: Ernakulam resident K Charishma is still in a shock. She is yet to come to terms with the fact that 19 persons, who travelled with her in the Kerala State Road Transport Bus from Bengaluru, are no more.

“I was lucky to get a seat on the left side of the bus,” she said.

Charishma boarded the bus from Electronic City in Bengaluru.  The lorry rammed on the right side of the bus. "I saw many people running around and the injured being taken to ambulance when I woke up. I cannot remember anything other than that,” she said.

Charishma was among the 42 passengers, who were on board the bus that met with an accident at Avinashi, near Coimbatore in Tamil Nadu, on Thursday.  A lorry, carrying floor tiles, had rammed into the bus at 3.15am on Thursday.

Passengers, who were lucky to escape unhurt, echoed her and said they could not talk much about the incident.

Thrissur resident Alan Sunny said he is yet to recover from the shock. “I am yet to recover from the shock,” he told Manorama News.

"I have sustained a minor injury on my leg. My friend suffered injuries on the nose," he said.

Alan and his friend had boarded the bus from Madiwala in Bengaluru. They were travelling to Thrissur.

Jemin George, an injured passenger, said he suffered a cut on his lips and ten stitches on his forehead. "I didn't know what happened. I was sleeping in a seat behind the driver," he said.

As many 42 passengers were on board the KSRTC bus. Most of them passengers were from Palakkad, Thrissur and Ernakulam districts.

Palakkad Superintendent of Police Siva Vikram said the collision happened after the lorry lost control. “We do not know if the driver dozed off or the tyre burst. The lorry entered the wrong lane and crashed into the bus coming in the opposite direction," he said.
