Over 400 Keralites died of COVID-19 in Gulf countries

Riyadh, Dubai: Over 400 Keralites have died of COVID-19 in the Gulf countries ever since the disease was first reported in the Middle East.

According to available figures, 406 Keralites have succumbed to the disease till date. Most deaths — 180 — have taken place in Saudi Arabia. But, the Indian Embassy has officially registered only 155. In the UAE, 118 Keralites have died, while in Kuwait 59 fell victims to COVID-19. Oman reported the death of 24 Keralites, while Qatar had 16 and Bahrain had nine.

In Saudi Arabia, while the total number of patients has crossed 3 lakh, over 2.75 lakh have been discharged after recovery. The number of daily cases in the country has fallen from about 5,000 to about 1,500. Saudi Arabia reported 36 more COVID deaths on Wednesday, taking the total death toll to 3,506. It reported 1,363 new cases.

In Qatar, there has been no COVID death in three days. Oman reported six deaths on Wednesday, while UAE and Bahrain reported one each; Kuwait had two deaths.

Etihad services from Friday

Etihad Airways has announced that it will start flights to Delhi, Mumbai and Bengaluru from Friday. 

According to the airline’s website, normal services to Thiruvananthapuram, Kochi and Kozhikode will resume from September 1. However, the announcement doesn’t offer much details since there is no clarity on when India will allow reopening of airports.
