Aluva: In a glaring security lapse Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan was made to alight before the arrival terminal of the Cochin international airport by the police escort though he had arrived to to take a Thiruvananthapuram-bound flight.

The chief minister realised that he had reached the wrong place after getting down from his official car.

Pinarayi Vijayan soon conveyed his displeasure to the policemen on escort duty, got back to his car and went to the departure terminal.

The CM's convoy had arrived at the Nedumbassery airport from the the Government Guest House at Aluva Palace on Wednesday.

Cops in two jeeps had escorted the chief minister as pilot. They were drafted from the Varapuzha and Munambam police stations, though Aluva police had been entrusted with the responsibility of escort duty for the chief minister.

A commando team had also accompanied the CM.

An internal inquiry by home department found that the mistake on the part of the pilot vehicle was responsible for the security lapse. The Superintendent of Police, Ernakulam Rural, and the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Central Range, summoned the cops who were on pilot duty.

Pinarayi Vijayan had arrived at the Aluva Palace Guest House on Monday in connection with the Ernakulam district conference of his party, the CPM. He returned for Thiruvananthapuram on Wednesday to attend the Cabinet meeting.

Earlier, before leaving the guest house, as a special gesture, the chief minister called the guest house manager Joseph John to his room and praised the staff for a pleasant stay and good food. Coming as it is from the chief minister, the appreciation was a new experience for the entire staff.
