Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Saturday left for a two-week visit to the United States for medical treatment.

He boarded an Emirates flight to Dubai from Cochin International Airport at Nedumbassery at 4:30am. From there, he will catch a connecting flight to the US.

Pinarayi will be undergoing treatment at the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota. He will return to the state on January 29.

He is accompanied by wife Kamala and personal assistant VM Sunish for the US visit.

He came to the Nedumbassery Airport on Friday at 6:30pm. He stayed in the airport's guest room at night.

Charge not given to anyone
Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has not assigned the CM's responsibility to any minister. He will officiate as CM from the hospital bed in the US.

The weekly Cabinet meeting will be held online on January 19. Important files will be disposed of by him through the e-file system.

It is learnt that he has not divulged more details on his treatment to his Cabinet colleagues.

In 2018 too, he undertook treatment in the Mayo Clinic. He was supposed to visit the clinic again for follow-up treatment last October. His visit to the clinic was postponed then due to the acute COVID-19 situation. He then went to the Apollo Hospital in Chennai for check-up.
