Govt may take a call on Sunday lockdown at today's COVID-19 review meeting

Lockdown-like curbs tomorrow; only parcel service by hotels, 20 persons allowed for marriages

Thiruvananthapuram: The high-level COVID-19 review meeting that will be held on Monday will decide, among other things, whether to continue with the Sunday lockdown that was in force during the past two weeks across Kerala.

The Health Department's assessment is that the recent restrictions enforced in Thiruvananthapuram district have yielded positive results. There are plans to further tighten restrictions in Ernakulam district where there is an increase in the number of COVID-19 cases.

Meanwhile, the number of COVID-19 cases being reported daily across Kerala went above the 50,000-mark for the fourth consecutive day on Sunday, Jan 30. Of the 103,366 blood samples tested, 51,570 cases were tested positive for COVID-19 on Sunday.

The Total Positive Rate stands at 49.89%.

As many as 354,595 persons are undergoing treatment for the pandemic as on Sunday. Around 32,701 persons recovered from the disease on this day.

About 14 more deaths have been confirmed on Sunday. Thus, the total deaths due to the COVID-19 pandemic in the state since its outbreak in January 2020 have touched 53,666.
