COVID: Kerala logs under 2k daily cases for first time this year, 1,836 fresh infections on Saturday

Kerala on Saturday reported 1,836 fresh cases of COVID-19 and 2,988 recoveries from the infection.

Kerala's daily COVID tally dropped under 2,000 for the first time this year. The last time there were fewer than 2,000 cases on a day was on December 27 when 1,636 cases were logged.

Test Positivity Rate (TPR) on the day was 6.02% after 30,504 samples were tested in the last 24 hours.

Active cases in Kerala dropped to 15,825 with 8.5% (1,321) of the total admitted to hospitals, including 199 fresh admissions.

COVID toll in Kerala reached 66,136 after four recent fatalities and 120 previously undocumented ones were made official by the health department.

There are 77,683 under observation in Kerala, of whom 76,362 are in home/institutional quarantine.

Of the fresh cases, 1,736 contracted the virus through contact while the source of infection remained unknown in 71 and 22 healthcare workers were also infected on the day.

Ernakulam district reported the highest number of recoveries (456) followed by Thiruvananthapuram (404) and Thrissur (249).
