Thiruvananthapuram: DGP Loknath Behera has ordered a Crime Branch probe into the death of musician Balabhaskar. The decision follows a demand by Balabhaskar’s father. The investigating team will be constituted soon.

The violinist’s father had sought a probe by an IPS officer. The case was being investigated by the Attingal DySP.

The police had earlier found that Balabhaskar’s driver Arjun, who was present in the car that met with an accident killing the musician, had been an accused in two criminal cases.

Meanwhile, officials assume that there was nothing suspicious regarding Balabhaskar’s financial dealings.

Balabhaskar’s father had recently said that the police had not recorded the statement of the family. He also said that the probe was on the wrong track, following which Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan intervened in the issue.

After Balabhaskar’s family expressed doubts over the money transactions between the late violinist and a doctor belonging to Palakkad, the police had questioned the doctor and his wife.

Balabhaskar, Lakshmi and their two-year-old daughter Tejaswini were traveling from Thrissur to Thiruvananthapuram by road when their car crashed into a tree late night. The accident took place on September 25 at Pallipuram, near Thiruvananthapuram. While Tejaswini passed away on the spot,
Balabhaskar, Lakshmi and their driver Arjun were admitted to a private hospital in Thiruvananthapuram.

Balabhaskar underwent surgeries in Ananthapuri hospital as he had head and spine injuries, multiple fractures on the leg and a dislocated neck. He passed away following a cardiac arrest on October 2, after a week-long battle for life.
