Man tries to kill himself after strangling wife, two children at Kadavanthra house

Kochi: Three members of a family – a woman and her two children – were found dead in their house at Kadavanthra here on Saturday. The woman's husband has been hospitalised and is in a critical condition with injuries to the neck.

The man, Narayanan, reportedly told the police that he killed his wife and children and attempted suicide due to some financial issues, Manorama News reported.

Narayanan told the police that he had fed sleeping pills in high doses to the three victims. However, when he found out that the trio was still alive, he allegedly strangled them with shoelaces to ensure their death. Following this, Narayanan slashed his neck to commit suicide.

Narayanan, who suffered grievous injuries, is admitted in a Kochi hospital. The deceased have been identified as Joyamol and her children Lakshmikant and Aswanth.

The family is originally from Tamil Nadu.

The incident happened near the Mattummal Temple in Kadavanthra.

The cause of death is yet to be confirmed officially. The Ernakulam Town South Police have started an investigation.
