COVID: Active cases in Kerala cross 3L-mark; 49,771 fresh infections on Wednesday

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala's active case-tally has crossed the 3 lakh-mark. With 49,771 cases reported on Wednesday, there are 3,00556 active cases in the state.

Test Positivity Rate (TPR) on the day was recorded at 48.1% after 1,03,553 samples were tested in the last 24 hours.

COVID-19 cases in the Ernakulam district continues to be high with 9,567 infections reported on the day. Meanwhile, Thiruvananthapuram witnessed a dip in cases (6,945).

So far, 52,281 COVID fatalities have been confirmed in the state, including 63 recent deaths and 77 previously undocumented ones that were made official by the health department on Wednesday.

Of the 34,439 recoveries made in the state on the day, Thiruvananthapuram recorded the highest, 9,582 while Wayanad was the lowest, 520.

Infection among healthcare workers remain high with 457 more testing positive.

While 45,846 of the fresh cases contracted the virus through contact, the source of infection in 3,272 remains unknown.

There were 1,346 COVID-related hospitalisations taking the tally of persons under in medical institutions to 10,938.

 

Vaccination update
The health department has said that among the fresh cases reported on the day over 25% (11,017) of those who were eligible of vaccination had not taken even a single dose.

Of the 43,557 who were eligible for vaccination, 30,138 were fully vaccinated and 2,402 had receied at least one dose of the vaccination.
