COVID: Kerala's active case tally drops under 50k; 5,023 fresh infections

Kerala on Wednesday reported 5,023 fresh cases of coronavirus at a Test Positivity Rate (TPR) of 8.15%.

At least 61,612 samples were tested for COVID-19 in Kerala on the day.

After 11,077 more recoveries were recorded, Kerala's active case tally has dropped to 47,354.

All districts reported fewer than 1,000 cases with Ernakulam having the highest (825) followed by Kozhikode (574) and Thiruvananthapuram (574).

The COVID toll reached 64,591 after 13 recent deaths and 175 previously undocumented fatalities were made official by the health department.

Of the fresh cases, 4,646 contracted the virus through contact while the source of infection remains unknown in 320. Besides, 41 healthcare workers are also infected on the day.

There are 1,35,857 under observation in the state, of whom 1,32,929 are in home/institutional quarantine centres and 2,928 in hospitals.

On Wednesday, 443 persons were hospitalised in Kerala.
