'Well-studied' Rahul surprises Wayanad delegation

New Delhi: Congress president and Wayanad MP Rahul Gandhi has promised to take stock of the issues concerning the constituency during his next visit, a leader who met him here on Friday said.

Rahul met a delegation of UDF leaders from the Wayanad constituency and discussed various issues including agrarian distress and the untapped potential for tourism development.

Wayanad District Congress Committee president I C Balakrishnan, who led the delegation from the district, told Onmanorama that Rahul had thoroughly studied the issues in the constituency before the delegation presented it to him.

Balakrishnan said Rahul promised to take stock of the issues thoroughly during his next visit to the constituency soon.

Issues of people living in Adivasi colonies, drought and the need lack for a medical college in the district were also raised by the delegation.

Rahul is most likely to visit Muthanga and the areas through which the proposed Nilambur-Nanjangud railway line has been envisaged.

"Rahul promised to present the issues of farmers in Parliament," Balakrishnan said.

He said the MP's offices will be opened at Kalpetta in Wayanad district and Mukkom in Kozhikode.

Wayanad Lok Sabha constituency spreads over seven assembly segments in Wayanad, Kozhikode and Malappuram districts.

AICC general secretaries K C Venugopal and Mukul Wasnik also attended the meeting.

A delegation led by Malappuram DCC president V V Prakash had a separate meeting with Rahul.

The Wayanad district delegation included former Kerala minister P K Jayalakshmi, P V Balachandran, K L Poulose, Rosakutty, PPA Kareem, K K Ahammed Haji, T Muhammed, PP Ali, Razaq Kalpetta, C Abdul Ashraf, K K Abraham and Padayan Abdulla.
