COVID: Kerala logs 6,757 new cases; TPR dips to 10.84%

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala on Saturday reported 6,757 new cases of COVID-19 and 17,086 recoveries from the infection.

The number of active cases dropped to 75,017 and the Test Positivity Rate (TPR) on the day also witnessed a dip and reached 10.84%.

Kerala tested 62,301 samples for coronavirus on the day. There are 1,80,392 persons under observation in the state, of whom 1,76,266 are in home/institutional quarantine and 4,126 in hospitals.

COVID-toll reached 64,053 after 16 recent deaths and 508 previously undocumented fatalities were made official by the health department.

Of the fresh cases, 6,314 contracted the virus through contact while the source of infection in 349 remains unknown and 50 healthcare workers were also infected on the day.

A health department release stated that between February 12 and 18 when the peak active case count had been 2,56,053, only 1.1% of patients required oxygen support and 0.6% were admitted to ICUs.

As of Saturday, 5.5% of the active cases is in hospitals, including 632 fresh admissions.
