COVID-19: Kerala reports 22,524 cases on Monday, death toll crosses 59K

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala reported 22,524 fresh cases and 49,586 recoveries from the infection on Monday.

Test Positivity Rate (TPR) dropped to 28.62% after 78,682 samples were tested in the last 24 hours.

Kerala's COVID-19 related death toll reached 59,115 after 14 recent deaths and 846 previously undocumented fatalities were made official by the health department.

Of the fresh cases, 21,033 had contracted the virus through contacts while the source of infection in 1,207 remains unknown and 170 healthcare workers were infected on the day.

The number of active cases in Kerala has dropped to 3,01,424 with 3.2 per cent of them in hospitals.

Vaccination and quarantine
Till Monday, 100 per cent (2,68,43,254) of the eligible adult population in Kerala has been given one dose of COVID-19 vaccine while 85 per cent (2,26,31,065) received both the doses. Among children aged between 15-18 years, 73 per cent (11,11,308) have been given the first dose vaccine and 5 per cent (70,402) got the second dose.

As of now, a total of 4,74,949 people are under observation across the state. Of them, 4,65,565 are under home or institutional quarantine while 9384 are in hospitals across the state. A total of 847 people were admitted in hospitals on Monday.
