Chakkakuru manga curry

Kerala is blessed with many seasonal fruits and vegetables. Jackfruit and mangoes definitely top this list of seasonal favourites. Here is a traditional Kerala side dish prepared with jackfruit seeds, mangoes and a pinch of nostalgia. Try it out!

Ingredients

500gm jackfruit seeds
100 gm sliced raw mangoes
1 ½ cups of water
¼ tsp turmeric powder
1 tsp chilli powder
1 tsp coriander powder
¼ tsp asafoetida
For the ground paste
1 coconut, grated
2 shallots
2 garlic cloves
For tempering
2 tsp coconut oil
1 tsp mustard seeds
2 dried chillies
5 sprigs of curry leaves
4 shallots, sliced

Preparation

Peel and thinly slice the jackfruit seeds
Transfer it to a thick-bottomed pot
Add turmeric powder, chilli powder, coriander powder, salt, curry leaves and water
Give it a good stir
Cover the pot with a lid and allow it to cook
Add the sliced mango when it starts to boil
Meanwhile, grind the grated coconut, shallots and garlic cloves into a paste
Transfer it to the boiling curry
Add asafoetida to it and mix well
When the raw smell leaves the gravy, turn off the stove and set aside the curry
Now, heat coconut oil in a pan
Splutter mustard seeds in it
Saute some dried chillies, curry leaves and shallots
When the shallots turn golden, turn off the stove and pour in this tempering into the curry
Thick and creamy jackfruit seed mango curry is ready to be relished
Serve it hot with rice.
